Black labrador Salmon fly

Black labrador is simple but deadly salmon fly fishing fly.  Black labrador fly pattern is originally from Newfoundland and Labrador. Its a fly pattern from the early days when salmon flies were usually made from material that was easy to find and collect.  

Black Labrador is an effective fly pattern when fishing in a gloaming as night starts to fall.  Has also proven to be one of the best salmon fly fishing patterns in Scandinavia, Russia and USA.  Many anglers use black labrador fly as their secret weapon when fishing late in the evening or during the night.

Usually its recommended to use this fly in late spring until autumn and they say its specially effective when river runs low.  We here at pickafly usually use this pattern when its raining and the weather is grey and cold.  During the summer we use smaller flies and strip them fast close to the surface.  When its cold and windy this fly has been good when fishing on a dead drift with a sinking line.

Best conditions to fish Black Labrador

Black Labrador is an effective fly pattern when fished on dark and rainy days in the mid summer.  Can also be successful on bright days in smaller sizes when the river water is running low.  Black labrador is a salmon fishing fly that everyone should try at least once when fishing in dusk or dawn.
